ONLINE DIGITAL FABRICATION SUMMER COURSE with JAMES THURMAN
ONLINE SUMMER COURSE with JAMES THURMAN
ASTU 4000/5000: TOPICS IN STUDIO
ONLINE DIGITAL FABRICATION
Only prerequisite: CVAD Major
Although no prior experience with digital fabrication (laser cutting, 3d printing, etc.) is required, it is recommended that you are comfortable with vector drawing (Adobe Illustrator, etc.) and basic 3d modeling (SketchUp, etc.). Students will be responsible for individually determining what online tutorials they will need in order to complete their assignments.
Since this is a project-based studio course, there will be some expense for having service providers (Ponoko, etc.) produce certain pieces along with some basic hand tools. The cost is entirely dependent on your chosen size and materials.
The course will last the full 13 week summer session (Monday May 13 to Thursday, August 8, 2013), with most projects due by Sunday evenings.
Feel free to email Professor Thurman with any questions: james.thurman @ unt.edu

Alumna interviewed by World of Thread Festival
Fibers alumna Leisa Rich is featured in an interview in World of Threads Festival online magazine.
I returned to school and received my Bachelor of Education in Art from the University of Western Ontario in 1993. Another baby and work intervened, and I returned for my Master of Fine Arts in Fibers, which I received from the University of North Texas in 2007.
