Fibers students exchange ideas and equipment with Material Sciences
Lesli Robertson's Advanced Weaving course took a trip to the Material Sciences Department at Discovery Park as a result of the research cluster involving both departments (http://renewablebioproducts.unt.edu/). During this semester, Material Science intern, Gerrit Staufenberg, has been working on the computerized knitting machines at the Fibers Department, knitting a biodegradable fiber for testing at the lab. Our students finally had a chance to see what machine made this - called the extruder. This fiber-making machine has the potential to take recyclable plastic and turn it back into usable fiber - endless possibilities for our weaving students!
