Sheppard Gallery invites you to the closing lecture and reception for our exhibition Scatter and Heap with artists Lauren DiCioccio and Paho Mann. Both artists work with mass produced objects that we use everyday – such as plastics and newspaper - from two different visions: DiCioccio through obsessive hand-embroidery and Mann through extreme photographic categorization. Most of the objects in this exhibit reference items considered “recyclable”, either literally or metaphorically.

Paho Mann received a BFA from the University of New Mexico in 2001 and a MFA from Arizona State University in 2007. Mann lives in Denton, Texas, where he is Assistant Professor of Photography at the University of North Texas. His work has been included in exhibitions at the Walker Art Center, (Minneapolis, MN), Carnegie Museum of Art (Pittsburgh, PA), Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art (Overland Park, KS), Arizona State University Art Museum (Tempe, AZ), and the Tucson Museum of Art (Tucson, AZ), among others. Mann’s work is included in the permanent collections at Tucson Museum of Art and the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art. Mann has also been commissioned for public art projects by the city of Phoenix.

Note: Paho Mann’s work specific to this exhibition was Commissioned by the City of Phoenix through the Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture’s Public Art Program.
